OLD TOWN ALGONQUIN

Old Town is the heart of a community and Algonquin is no exception.  Algonquin is in the midst of a five-year, $30 million reinvestment in the downtown.  While the dust is flying, the Village is rebuilding all underground infrastructure, restoring the lifeblood of public utilities and replacing century-old pipes to serve buildings with modern standards.  When finished, Main Street and the Old Town Historic District will be dressed in the finest of brick streets, convenient pedestrian amenities, nearby parking, and the nicest lighting and landscaping.

Old Town offers a variety of new development, redevelopment, restoration and adaptive reuse opportunities, in a boutique urban setting.  The Village’s downtown plan calls for increasing residential density, promoting mixed-use and multi-use urban buildings, and redeveloping key sites with new multiple-story buildings, all while creating a setting that is uniquely Algonquin.

Old Town also offers cultural amenities. The Old Town Historic District is anchored by Historic Village Hall, and assures the preservation of a quaint river downtown.  Algonquin’s parks allow easy access to the Fox River and feature events such as weekly concerts, regular events, festivals and art shows, and even occasional weddings. 

Algonquin’s Public Art Program places art pieces, on loan from artists nationwide, on display in public places throughout the community.  This program enhances Algonquin’s sense of place and celebrates learning, culture and creativity in our community.  From prior years of the Public Art program, artisan-designed bike racks, and painted fiberglass sailboats, can be discovered downtown.
